New York Fashion Week Kicks Off!

The Spring 2012 Fashion Collections kicked off at New York Fashion Week today and, truly, the timing is always so nice. With summer almost over, I feel excited to see what fashion trends are ahead for 2012. So far, I was able to see some pics from Steven Alan's Spring 2012 collection and I was really impressed. His collection featured comfortably stylish pieces, like this washed-out blue silk linen dress, as featured on www.nytimes.com.

In the Market for New Ankle Boots

I firmly believe the "it" boot for this Fall 2011 Season will be the Ankle Boot. I'm not sure if it's because they are more effortless and less overtly sexy than last season thigh highs or if it's because they just look more laid back. Either way, I'm definitely in the market for a pair.

Fall Fashion Predictions

I know it's still August, but I'm already thinking about fall fashion and what trends to look out for. From scanning my subscription magazines, various fashion blogs and even street fashion, I think that we're going to see a lot of oversize clothing items, including oversize sweaters.

Have you Heard of eSalon.com?

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I hate the time and cost of getting my hair dyed at the salon. Now, I might hate it less if my color and highlights actually turned out, but I'm never completely happy with the end result. Recently, I had high and low-lights put through and the guy might as well have just put a solid color through, because you can't even tell I had highlights. Also, he left the toner on for so long, I ended up with blue hair around my ears!

So, I got pretty excited when I heard about eSalon.com. They ask you a bunch of questions about your natural color, current color and desired color. In addition to being customized for you, eSalon.com uses the same high quality dyes mixed in high-end salons. This means superior gray coverage and rich, vibrant haircolor. Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada yet, so I sadly cannot order from them. However, it sounds like they are planning to open up their borders, so I look forward to possibly ordering from them in the near future.

What to Wear Under a Short Dress?

I just returned from a trip to Vegas and the weather was scorching hot! With weather like that there's no way I could have worn tight or nylons under any of my short summer dresses. So, what was my solution? Boy shorts! Not only are they comfortable, but they leave zero panty-line and are not too revealing if you happen to show more than intended. So, next time you're wondering what to wear under a short dress, consider the boy short.

Go Chemical Free!

I have to admit, I've been a bit lazy this past year about buying chemical free beauty and cleaning products. I'm usually pretty good and try and buy cruelty free products, but that's no guarantee they're also chemical free. I got a big wake-up call yesterday, when I read an interview with Gillian Deacon, who wrote the book, There's Lead in you Lipstick. She reminded me of the dangers of the multiple toxins I'm exposing myself to everyday. From the Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) in my shampoo and facial cleanser to the DEA in my toner. I can't even believe I thought these products were doing me any good!

If you go to her website www.GillDeacon.ca, she lists the top toxins to avoid. I printed it off and began investigating the ingredient list on the products I used everyday. I was shocked! The expensive toner, that I use twice everyday, mostly consists of dangerous toxins. I was kinda mad at myself, because I should have know better, but I guess I bought into the beauty industry's marketing efforts.

When I was in my teens, I used to go crazy making my own face masks, lip balms and toners. I don't know why I ever stopped, but today I'm making a trip to a local health store to buy some natural ingredients, like rose oil and witch hazel, so I can resume making my own toners again. Admittedly, one of my top natural beauty secrets is using extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil as a facial and body moisturizer. It really works wonders! Also, rather than buying lip balms that are pumped full of chemicals, I keep a small jar of Vaseline in my purse.

I'm excited to rid my drawers and myself of all these dangerous chemicals. I think it's liberating to take back control of what we're not only feeding the inside of our bodies, but the outside, as well.
